SHAWANO, WI- A Shawano-area mother is urging parents to stay alert after a frightening incident involving her daughter.
In a social media video, the mother explained that her daughter was walking home from an event when she was followed by a group of men, one of whom allegedly had a knife. The girl and her friends ran to a nearby gas station for safety, where police were called.
“You don’t think something like this can happen in our community, but it does,” the mother said in the video. “You never expect something just to happen to your kids, and it does, and it shouldn’t.”
The Shawano Police Department confirmed it received a call regarding the situation and says the case remains under investigation.
In the meantime, the mother says she simply wants families to stay aware, especially those with children who spend time at parks or walk around town.
