SHAWANO, WI- Chris Culhane, a member of the Class of 2008 at Shawano Community High School, was a standout multi-sport athlete whose dedication and leadership left an indelible mark on
Shawano’s cross country, basketball, baseball, and track programs.
Chris ran cross-country for three years, earning varsity letters as a junior and senior. He was an integral part of the 2006 state-qualifying team and helped lead the Bay Conference
championship team in his senior year. Individually, Chris was the conference champion in 2007 and earned First Team All-Conference honors both his junior and senior seasons. He finished 13th at state that same year and was named team MVP as a senior, also serving as team captain in his final two seasons. His fastest 5000m time of 16:12 reflects his impressive endurance and competitive spirit.
In addition to cross-country, Chris contributed as a varsity athlete in basketball and baseball, lettering in both sports during his junior and senior years. On the basketball court, his teams posted solid records, including a 14-5 finish in 2007. Chris also earned team MVP honors in track and field as a senior. He still holds a place among the school’s all-time top ten performers in multiple track events, including the third-fastest 3200m time (9:35.73) and as a member of the school record-holding 3200m relay team in 2008.
In addition to participating in 13 athletic seasons, Chris was a dedicated student, earning National Honor Society recognition in both his junior and senior years. His combined excellence
on the field and in the classroom earned him the prestigious Athlete of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year awards in 2008. Chris was also co-valedictorian of his class. Following high school, Chris attended Creighton University, competing in cross country and
track while pursuing his undergraduate degree. He returned to Wisconsin and earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Through his work in family medicine, Chris continues his commitment to community health and values the deep connections he builds with his patients. Chris and his wife enjoy spending time with their two sons and exploring the outdoors.
