Shawano police handled a busy Thursday with a wide range of calls, from medical assists to traffic hazards and suspicious activity.
Early in the morning, officers and EMS were called to East Stevens Street where an 88-year-old woman was found on the floor. She was assisted and taken for medical care.
Several welfare checks were performed, including one near McDonald Road, another on Edgewood Road, and later near the Mountain Bay Trail, where someone was found sheltering beneath a semi-trailer.
Police also investigated multiple suspicious situations. One caller reported a jacket with blood, a vape, and a wallet left outside a Shawano business. The wallet identified a possible owner as Tyreese Olson. Another report on Maurer Street involved someone claiming to hear screaming from a train car, while a man allegedly tried entering a residence. Later in the evening, officers responded to Division and Andrews after a caller heard someone screaming for help.
Traffic lights were out at several major intersections along East Green Bay Street, causing hazards during the late morning hours. Crews were notified, and officers directed traffic until repairs were made.
Other incidents included a minor rear-end crash on Green Bay Street, a stray dog running into traffic on Washington Street, and the theft of a red BMX-style bike with green pegs reported on Richmond Street.
Police also responded to a bail-jumping complaint, a harassment call at a Green Bay Street residence, and several 911 hang-ups throughout the day.
Clintonville police began their day just after 2 a.m. with a noise complaint on East First Street. Later in the morning, officers conducted extra patrols near schools and neighborhoods, followed by a series of traffic stops on Hemlock, Harriet, Main, and other streets.
In the afternoon, police checked on a suspicious vehicle on 20th Street, assisted another agency on Pershing Street, and handled a harassment complaint on South Clinton Avenue. Officers also responded to traffic issues on Olen Park Road and West Madison Street.
During the evening, a 911 call came in from 10th Street, and officers performed a welfare check near 12th Street. Additional extra patrols were conducted around Memorial Circle before the day wrapped up with a late-night traffic stop on Hemlock Street.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office handled 40 calls for service across the county.
Deputies were called to Gresham early in the morning for a reported assault on Little Road, though no ambulance was requested at the scene. Later that afternoon, another Gresham resident reported an attempted burglary on Old Keshena Road, saying someone had tried to pry open her garage door.
Traffic and roadway issues also kept officers busy. Around 11 a.m., dispatch received reports of a semi hauling a house hitting a bridge on Highway 117 near Flambeau Road, scattering debris across the highway. That same evening, deputies were alerted to a large tree blocking the entrance to Hayman Falls. Other calls included multiple reckless driving complaints in Birnamwood and along Highway 29, as well as two vehicle crashes — one with property damage only.
Deputies also conducted several welfare checks, including one where a woman was reported to be harming herself and neglecting her children, and another where neighbors grew concerned after not seeing an elderly woman for days.
In Mattoon, residents reported a youth riding a race-style ATV through town streets and school property, performing wheelies and disturbing the neighborhood. And in Tigerton, the First National Bank contacted authorities after learning a local woman may have been targeted in a check-cashing scam.
The Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department reported four additional incidents Thursday, including a welfare check and a disturbance in Bowler.
