SHAWANO, WI – As the school year gets underway, Shawano School Resource Officer Tyler Thornborrow is urging students and parents to take a stand against bullying, whether it happens in the hallways, classrooms, or online.
Thornborrow says he and district leaders, administrators, and counselors are united in taking a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, stressing that every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. “Whether it’s in the hallway or it’s online, treat each other with kindness and respect,” Thornborrow said. “If you know somebody that’s being targeted, report that to school officials, a parent, or a trusted adult.”
Even at the middle school level, bullying remains a concern. School Resource Officer Brandi Hoffman says quick action can make all the difference. “It’s really important that if your kid is reporting anything to you, please contact somebody at the school and talk to them and report it,” Hoffman said.
Hoffman adds that early reporting allows administrators and counselors to respond quickly and keep the focus on learning, not conflict.
