NEW LONDON, WI – A major honor is coming to New London this weekend, as both Hatten Stadium and Hatten Park will officially be recognized on the State and National Register of Historic Places. The dedication marks a proud moment for the community, celebrating two landmarks that have been central to local history for generations.
Originally, the push was only to recognize Hatten Stadium. But New London Museum Director Christine Cross says the effort quickly expanded. “Everyone kind of got excited about it, and when I contacted the State Historic Preservation Office, they actually suggested that instead of just focusing on the stadium, we go for the whole park,” Cross explained.
As Cross dug deeper into the history, she discovered that Hatten Park had never been officially dedicated. That realization, combined with its cultural and recreational significance, led to its inclusion alongside the stadium.
The dedication ceremony will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the park’s entrance, followed by community festivities. Organizers say the event is not only about honoring the past but also about ensuring the legacy of Hatten Park and Stadium continues for future generations.
