First day of Volleyball across the state saw some Northeast area teams get in on some action.
Bonduel is coming off a 29-5 season and a state semifinal appearance before being ousted by Aquinas in 3 sets. The Bears hosted a home invite with Southern Door, Sevastopol, Crandon and Suring.
Bonduel went 3-1 on the day, coming behind Southern Door who won on tiebreakers. The Bears opened with a 2-1 win over Southern Door in their opening match, then suffered a 2-0 loss against the Pioneers of Sevastopol. The Bears then won the last two matches of the day taking down Crandon 2-0 and Suring 2-1. Strong performers included Juliana Jacobs for the Bears who had 23 kills and 34 digs, Audrey Jacobs followed with 21 kills and Jayla Reinke had 15 kills along with 5 aces and 18 digs. Assist leaders were Peyton Westrich with 35 and Paige Niquette with 40.
The Eagles of Suring soared in the beginning of their season as they picked up two wins against Sevastopol and Crandon at the Bonduel Invite.
Shawano got their season started yesterday as well with a trip to Kimberly for the Papermaker Invite. Lots of Division 1 teams were at Kimberly for the invite. Shawano had matches against Oshkosh West, Kimberly, Brookfield East and Fond du Lac. The Kimberly Papermakers went 3-1 at their home invite including a 2-0 win over Shawano. The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans went 2-2 on the day at Kimberly, earning wins against Appleton North and Notre Dame and dropping matches to Neenah and Bay Port.
The Xavier Hawks flew high at their own invite having no trouble going 4-0 on the day. Little Chute, Chilton, Howards Grove and Fox Valley Lutheran. The Oconto Falls Panthers went 2-2 on the day, winning against Ashwaubenon and Little Chute and dropping matches against Howards Grove and Wrightstown. Izzy Otto helped lead the way for the Panthers with 10 aces during the invite.
The Chargers of Wittenberg-Birnamwood got their season started at the Stevens Point Invite with a 2-1 win over Green Bay NEW before losing to De Pere 2-0.
The Gresham Wildcats were also in action; they dropped both matches on the day losing to Chequamegon 2-0 and Three Lakes 2-0.
At the Hortonville Invite, The West De Pere Phantoms scared some teams on the day shutting out Hortonville, Seymour and Appleton West.
