NEW LONDON, WI – Major roadwork is coming to one of New London’s busiest intersections in 2026.
At its Aug. 4 meeting, the New London Board of Public Works learned that the intersection of Shawano Street and State Highway 54 will undergo a full reconstruction as part of a state-managed project. Public Works Director Robert Garske said the state will coordinate the project in conjunction with work planned for the Highway 45 bypass.
While the $3.9 million project will be covered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the city will be responsible for about $3,000 to adjust sanitary structures to the new road grade. According to Garske, the intersection has reached the point of deterioration, with widespread cracking, rutting, and outdated curb ramps that do not meet ADA standards.
