OCONTO COUNTY, WI – The Oconto County Fair continued to bring in visitors with its rides, food, and animal exhibits this past weekend, but recent measles cases in the county are raising concerns about public health.
Five new measles infections were confirmed last week, adding to nine earlier cases reported earlier this month. Health officials say the new cases show signs of ongoing community spread. Statewide, measles is also on the rise, with cases reported in 42 states so far this year.
Fair Board leaders said the situation was reviewed, but no changes were made to fair operations. They emphasized that county health officials are monitoring the spread and handling quarantines as needed.
Medical experts stress that the best protection against measles is vaccination. Officials encourage residents to review their vaccination status to help protect themselves and the community.
