Student-athletes across the area are back on the courts, fields, and trails as fall sports practices officially get underway today.
Cross country, volleyball, and boys soccer teams from the Bay Conference, Fox Valley Association, Northeastern Conference, FRCC, and Central Wisconsin Conference all opened their preseason sessions Monday. Programs in the Marinette & Oconto Conference will kick off practices later this week.
In boys soccer, several area teams are expected to make noise this fall. Shawano returns after a state tournament run last season, while Xavier, West De Pere, and New London are also shaping up for strong years.
On the volleyball court, both Shawano and Bonduel enter the season with unfinished business. Each program advanced to the WIAA state semifinals last year before falling short of a championship appearance, and both will be looking to climb back to the Resch Center this November.
With preseason now underway, competition heats up quickly, opening matches are just a few weeks away.
