TIGERTON, WI- A massive fire destroyed a structure on Cedar Street in the Village of Tigerton Saturday evening, prompting a large mutual aid response from area departments.
The Tigerton Fire Department was dispatched around 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the attic of the building. Firefighters immediately began efforts to knock down the blaze while ensuring the safety of residents and nearby properties. All occupants were safely evacuated before crews arrived.
As conditions worsened, Tigerton called in a box alarm for mutual aid, eventually escalating to a fifth alarm to bring in tanker trucks from across the region. Crews established two water fill sites to keep up with demand. An estimated 540,000 gallons of water were used to battle the fire.
The building is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Tigerton Fire Department expressed gratitude to the many area fire departments, law enforcement agencies, towing services, and excavation crews that responded. Dozens of departments from Shawano, Waupaca, and Marathon counties assisted in the firefight, along with local residents who provided food and water to emergency crews.
