SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano Flying Car Show is ready to make another high-flying return to the Shawano Airport, following last year’s event that drew nearly 160 classic cars and a variety of aircraft. Organizers say this year’s show will feature even more for aviation and automotive enthusiasts to enjoy.
“We hope it to be bigger and better,” said Doug Engel, secretary of the Shawano Airport Commission. “We’ll have airplanes, we’ll have warbirds, we’ll have equipment, we’ll have demonstrations, and we’ll have Young Eagle flights for the 8 to 17 crowd with parental permission.”
The popular Young Eagles program, which offers free introductory flights to youth, is also getting an upgrade. In partnership with Shawano Mayor Bruce Milavitz, organizers have introduced a new QR code pre-registration system to help kids sign up ahead of time and skip long lines. Engel says it’s all about giving young flyers more time to enjoy the rest of the event.
“What we want to do is to be able to allow those who sign up for Young Eagles to be able to walk the grounds, see the demos, look at the cars, look at the airplanes and not have to stand in line,” Engel said.
The Shawano Flying Car Show takes place Saturday, August 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shawano Airport. The event is free to attend and will feature aircraft displays, car shows, flight demonstrations, and interactive activities for all ages.
