SHAWANO, WI- A Seymour man is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree reckless homicide, after authorities say he was driving more than 100 miles per hour before a crash that killed a 14-year-old boy and injured another teen. Eighteen-year-old Collyn Jorgenson has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree reckless injury, and obstructing an officer in connection with the July 31 crash in the Town of Seneca. According to the criminal complaint, Jorgenson and two passengers were on their way to Antigo to pick up a friend from the Langlade County Jail. Data from the Life360 app and a video taken moments before the crash showed the vehicle traveling in excess of 100 mph, with speeds reaching up to 120 mph earlier in the trip. Diagrams in the complaint show the car left the roadway, struck a large rock, rotated, hit another rock, and became airborne, flying approximately 150 feet before landing on its roof. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The Shawano County Coroner’s Office confirmed that a 14-year-old passenger from the Seymour area died from his injuries, while the other teen passenger suffered multiple fractures and a deep hand laceration. Jorgenson allegedly admitted to drinking earlier in the day, telling investigators he had “a couple of beers” but didn’t finish the second one. According to the complaint, Jorgenson has a documented history of reckless behavior in Outagamie County, with charges since December ranging from disorderly conduct and reckless driving to alcohol violations and threats toward a minor. He is currently being held on an $80,000 cash bond. If convicted, he faces up to 60 years in prison on the homicide charge, 25 years for reckless injury, and nine months for obstruction. He will be in court next month.
