The 2025 Suring Eagles football team may be short on numbers, but head coach Mitch Taylor insists they aren’t short on potential. With just 16 players on the roster, including only a few seniors and sophomores, Taylor acknowledges this is one of the smallest squads he’s coached in over 20 years. Still, he believes the group’s experience gives them a chance to compete in every game this fall.
Offensively, the Eagles will once again lean on their powerful ground game, anchored by two returning All-Conference running backs. Kroix Kempka, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards last season, and Grant Thompson, who added around 600 yards, bring a proven one-two punch to the backfield. They’ll run behind an offense that remains largely similar to last year’s scheme, designed to maximize their strengths in the run game.
At quarterback, junior Taylor Booth returns after seeing about a quarter of the team’s snaps as a sophomore. His athleticism and familiarity with the offense should help keep the Eagles balanced, while his leadership will be critical on the other side of the ball. Defensively, Booth will take on a major role as a middle linebacker and is the team’s only returning defensive back with experience. His all-conference recognition last year makes him the natural leader of a defense looking to be aggressive and disciplined.
Last season, Suring finished in the middle of the conference standings, but with their offensive weapons and a core group of experienced players, the Eagles aim to climb higher in 2025. The challenge will be maintaining health and stamina with such a small roster, but if their leaders can stay on the field, this team has the tools to surprise opponents.
