SHAWANO, WI – The future of Shawano County’s Ethics Committee, and the role of one of its supervisors, is in question following a heated county board meeting.
Chairman Tom Kautza says the board has reached a breaking point after Supervisor Lowel Hammett made comments about staff complaints and alleged a missing million dollars. Kautza noted that several board members have already approached him about taking action.
“They want us to go through the process to kick him right off the board because this is just nonsense,” Kautza said during the meeting.
Hammett, however, stood firm, saying, “I think we should do whatever’s best for the county. I just have a job to do, and I’m gonna do that job.”
The current Ethics Committee consists of two county supervisors and three citizen members. The board is expected to consider restructuring or possibly eliminating the committee when it meets again on August 27.
