SHAWANO, WI- Shawano and Menominee Counties have completed an updated hazard mitigation plan aimed at reducing the long-term risks and impacts of disasters. The effort, funded through a pre-disaster mitigation grant, outlines strategies to protect people and property from future hazards such as flooding and severe storms. Officials note that for every dollar spent on mitigation, society saves more than six dollars, according to the Multi-hazard Mitigation Council. The plan highlights both simple and large-scale actions, from elevating basement utilities to relocating buildings out of flood-prone areas. The public is invited to review and comment on the draft plan at the Shawano County Clerk’s Office and Menominee County Clerk’s Office through August 4, 2025.
