DE PERE & MARINETTE — Championship season kicked off with standout performances across the Bay and North Eastern Conferences as athletes battled for team and individual titles. West De Pere dominated at the Bay Conference Championships, sweeping both the boys and girls team titles, while Freedom’s girls and Little Chute’s boys stood atop the North Eastern Conference meet in Marinette.
Bay Conference Championships – De Pere
West De Pere was in peak form at their home track, capturing both team titles in convincing fashion. The Phantoms’ girls amassed 182.5 points, well ahead of Shawano (128), while the boys compiled 192 points, comfortably ahead of Seymour (133).
Green Bay East’s Faith Weatherspoon stole the spotlight on the girls’ side with a sprinting triple crown. The junior claimed the 100 meters in 12.51 seconds, the 200 in 25.71, and the 400 in a commanding 57.47 — one of the day’s top overall performances.
West De Pere’s Kaylin Thomson swept the hurdles, clocking 15.49 in the 100-meter hurdles and 49.55 in the 300-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, distance ace Kalli Vannieuwenhoven claimed the 800 meters (2:19.39) and teamed with Kate Schmoll to secure a 1-2 finish for the Phantoms.
In the field events, Adriana Moyano (Green Bay West) had a stellar day. Moyano won the long jump (16-9) and triple jump (36-2.75), and added a second-place finish in the pole vault (10-0).
Shawano’s girls made waves in the relays, sweeping the 4×800, 4×400, and 4×1600 meter relays behind a consistent lineup led by Mikelah Powers and Bailey Hendricks.
On the boys’ side, Ben Lemirand (West De Pere) proved nearly unbeatable, sprinting to victory in the 100 (10.63) and 200 (22.21) meters, adding a win in the long jump (20-9.5), and anchoring the 4×100 relay team to gold.
Seymour’s Logan Boehnlein shined in the distance events, winning both the 1600 meters (4:31.33) and the 3200 (10:16.97).
New London made its mark in the 800 and relay events. Nick Ploederl won the 800 (2:04.50) followed closely by Jonah Stone, with both contributing to the Bulldogs’ winning 4×800 relay (8:30.34).
Field events saw Alex Marsh (Seymour) win the discus with a throw of 159-3, while finishing runner-up in the shot put (47-10). Green Bay East’s Kayden Fenlon took the 110 hurdles (15.35) and earned silver in long jump.
North Eastern Conference Championships – Marinette
At the NEC Championships, Freedom’s girls racked up 186 points to take home the title, while the Little Chute boys edged out Freedom with 155 points for the top spot.
Kaleb Williams (Fox Valley Lutheran) was a standout sprinter, winning the 100 (11.08) and 200 (22.47) meters, and placing a close second in the 400 (50.39). In the distance events, Waupaca’s Owen Lencki delivered a dominant triple, claiming the 800 (2:00.49), 1600 (4:32.23), and 3200 meters (10:02.90).
Little Chute’s depth across the field and mid-distance events carried them to the boys’ team title, while Freedom’s consistent scoring in the relays, sprints, and throws led to their girls’ crown.
