
Kay Faith (Kuester) Charkandy, age 89, began her journey to the Spirit World on April 9, 2025, at Oakhaven Assisted Living Center in Shawano. She was born December 4, 1935, in Keshena to Marvin and Catherine (Penass) Kuester.
Kay enjoyed shopping, sewing, decorating, reading and traveling. Her favorite thing was spending time with her sisters. They always laughed loudly when they were together. She also enjoyed cats, spending winters in Florida, watching and feeding birds, finding treasures in second-hand stores and visiting with her family around the kitchen table.
Later in life, fulfilling a lifelong dream, Kay earned a bachelor’s degree in social work at UWGB. She worked on the Menominee Indian Reservation as a social worker, serving families of her tribe.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Keith Thomas, who died in infancy, her three sisters, Mary Kemmeter, Anna Hoffman and Phyllis Kuester and her husband Stephen Charkandy.
She is survived by her children Paul (Mary) Pleshek of Bonduel, Polly Pleshek of Gresham, Peter Pleshek of Shawano, Phyllis (Jim) Pleshek Blilie of White Salmon, WA, Patrick (Heidi) Pleshek of Gresham and Preston Pleshek of Shawano. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service for Kay will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano at noon on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Burial will follow in Lake Drive Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:30am until the time of the service.
