Shawano Hawks Look to Tame Pulaski Red Raiders

PULASKI, WI-The Shawano Hawks travel to face the Pulaski Red Raiders in a non-conference clash.

Both teams have had contrasting starts to the season, with Shawano coming off a dominant win against Clintonville, while Pulaski looks to continue its strong form after an impressive 2023-24 season. Here’s a look at how both teams stack up heading into tonight’s game.

Logan Sipple has been Shawano’s go-to scorer, averaging 24.5 PPG with impressive shooting numbers. His ability to score from deep (54.5% on three-pointers) and finish at the rim will be pivotal against Pulaski’s defense.

Crew Weisnicht has been efficient, posting 11.0 PPG on 61.5% shooting and contributing on the boards with 13 rebounds. His presence in the paint will be essential against Pulaski’s interior defense.

Jerzy Brocker and Anderson Schmidt have been important contributors, with Brocker leading the team in assists and Schmidt providing secondary scoring

Shawano’s offense has been potent, but they’ll need to tighten up defensively to limit Pulaski’s offensive weapons. They’ll also need to improve on their free-throw shooting, which has been inconsistent early in the season.

Jackson Nordin: Leads on the boards with 10 rebounds and contributing defensively with 8 total steals.

Pulaski enters this matchup with a wealth of experience, as they return a strong core from last season. Key contributors include:

Colin Schultz, who averaged 16 PPG last season, will be a key player for Pulaski. His ability to score inside and outside gives them a versatile offensive weapon

Joseph Mijal, the team’s top scorer in 2023-24 with 19 PPG, will be crucial for pulling Pulaski’s offense together

Bryce Wotruba is a key facilitator with strong ball-handling and shooting skills. He averaged 7 PPG last season and will need to continue being a playmaker for Pulaski

Pulaski’s high-scoring offense will be a challenge for Shawano, especially with their experience and ability to stretch the floor. However, Pulaski will need to avoid defensive lapses, which were evident in their losses last season to high-caliber teams

Keys to the Game

  • Shawano’s Offensive Firepower: With Logan Sipple leading the charge, Shawano will need to execute their fast-paced offense while finding opportunities for efficient scoring from players like Crew Weisnicht and Anderson Schmidt
  • Pulaski’s Defensive Effort: Pulaski will need to focus on slowing down Sipple and limiting Shawano’s perimeter shooting. If they can contain Shawano’s high-scoring guards, they’ll have a good chance of dictating the tempo
  • Rebounding: Both teams have strong rebounding presences, with Shawano’s Weisnicht and Pulaski’s Schultz and Holewinski battling inside. Rebounding will be key for second-chance points

The game is at 7:00pm and can be heard on WOTE AM 1380, 96.5 FM and 94.9 FM as well as www.shawanohawks.com
