Volleyball Regionals: Tigerton, Coleman Among Winners; Manawa Earns Upset


The WIAA Volleyball Regionals got underway Tuesday. Many area teams advanced on to Thursday’s Regional Semifinals.

DIVISION 4

Coleman 3, Gillett 0
The sixth-seeded Cougars dominated their regional match against the 11th-seeded Tigers, securing a 25-7, 25-18, 25-21 victory. Key contributors for Coleman included Alayna Gilbertson, who tallied three aces, three digs, and two kills. Vivian Kostreva delivered a standout performance with 11 kills, three aces, three digs, and two blocks. Annabell Markiewicz added five digs, while Larissa Sailer contributed nine assists and three kills. Maddy Seefeldt chipped in with two assists, and Maddy Straub recorded two blocks.

Manawa 3, Algoma 1
Manawa got off to a fast start and topped Algoma 3-1 with wins in the first two sets. The 11th seeded Wolves won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17, before losing in the third set 25-21. Manawa bounced to win the fourth set 25-21, knocking off the 6th seed.

DIVISION 5

Tigerton 3, Stockbridge 0

The Tigerton Tigers pulled off a thrilling comeback in a five-set battle against Stockbridge, advancing to the next round of Regionals after being down 0-2. Set scores were 25-27, 15-25, 25-17, 25-22, and 15-13, with Tigerton rallying to win the final three sets.

Jade Selle led the Tigers’ offense with 14 kills, followed by Aaliyah Lederhaus with 12, Sienna Breaker with 11, and Presley Stewart-Rolfs adding 9. Setter Danika Tiller played a crucial role, racking up 39 assists to fuel the attack.

Defensively, Angel Welch was a standout with 37 digs, while Selle added 30, and Breaker and Lederhaus contributed 25 each. Stewart-Rolfs chipped in with 24 digs and one block kill.
