SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Public Works Department will begin fall curbside leaf collection on October 14, continuing through November 22. Residents are asked to place loose leaves at the curb on their scheduled garbage collection day. While city crews may experience delays, residents are encouraged to remain patient.
During this period, the six-bag limit for yard waste will be waived. After November 22, all yard waste must be placed in 30-gallon biodegradable bags or plastic containers with a yellow Shawano Yard Waste sticker, available at the Public Works office and City Hall.
Guidelines to ensure efficient collection:
- Rake leaves into long windrows near the curb, avoiding the street.
- Keep leaves away from obstacles like trees or hydrants.
- Avoid placing garbage, branches, or metal in the leaf piles.
- Do not park vehicles near leaf windrows.
Bulky tree cuttings must be tied into bundles and placed directly on the curb. Grass, leaves, and garden waste can also be taken to the landfill during business hours.
