CLINTONVILLE, WI- In a decisive fourth place play-in game, Marion emerged victorious with a 7-2 win over Menominee, thanks to a strong all-around performance and standout pitching from Joe Weyenberg.
Weyenberg went the distance for Marion, pitching nine innings and earning the win. He struck out four batters and issued two walks, keeping Menominee’s offense in check throughout the game.
Menominee’s Pete Bruette took the loss on the mound, as his team struggled to generate enough offense to overcome Marion’s steady attack. Marion’s hitters took full advantage of their opportunities, racking up 10 hits and drawing 12 walks.
Blake Weatherwax led the charge for Marion, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Dave Jueds also had a strong showing, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Ryan Mortensen added two hits in four at-bats. Kaleb Rath contributed with a double in his 1-for-3 performance.
Menominee managed just six hits and two walks in the game. Bryce Dixon and Mitch Vanderleven both collected multiple hits, with Dixon going 2-for-4 and Vanderleven finishing 2-for-3. Will Corn added a double in a 1-for-4 outing, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
