TOWN OF MAINE, WI- A man from Illinois is in critical condition at a Wisconsin hospital after a severe car crash in the town of Maine, Outagamie County, on Saturday morning.
According to a press release from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a one-car crash on Taubel Road, west of County Highway I, early Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered that a sedan had veered off the road and struck a tree.
The sole occupant of the vehicle, an Illinois man, was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by the Nichols Fire Department. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted from the scene by Eagle III to a local hospital.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
Taubel Road was closed for approximately four hours following the incident but has since reopened.
Further details about the driver’s condition or the circumstances leading up to the crash have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
