
B. Maxine Braun, age 93, of Shawano, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday evening, June 10, 2024, at The Cottages in Shawano, where she had been a resident the past two and a half years. Maxine was born on March 5, 1931, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Herbert and Frieda (Deede) Mueller. She attended Riverside School and then St. James Lutheran Grade School where she was also confirmed. Maxine graduated from
Shawano High School with the class of 1949. That summer she met her future husband at a dance at Rustic Resort, Cloverleaf Lakes. In fall she attended Hope College to study library science. The summer after her freshmen year of college she returned to Shawano and obtained a position on the Shawano City County Library Bookmobile, a job she loved. On September 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Melvin “Shorty” Braun at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Maxine assisted her husband at Braun Dairy Equipment as the office manager and bookkeeper. Her husband “Shorty” preceded her in death on March 10, 1990. On July 9, 1994, Maxine was united in marriage to Henry Berner at St. James Lutheran Church. Together they spent 23 winters in Florida where Maxine loved riding her bike, walking the beach shelling, and dining out with Henry. Maxine was a faithful member and actively volunteered at St. James Lutheran Church. She started the library at St. James Lutheran School using PTL pancake dinner funds. She enjoyed playing cards, reading mystery novels, traveling, family
camping, and baking bread.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Berner of Shawano; four children, Mark (Deb Stezenski) Braun of Shawano, Mindy Braun of Holmen, WI, David (Kathy) Braun of Vancouver, WA, and Daniel (Kathy) Braun of Shawano; stepchildren, Mark (Karen) Berner of Fresno, CA, Scott (Kathy) Berner of Naples, FL, and Brian Berner of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Abbey (Ben) Fletcher, Alyssa Olson, Andrew (Heidi) Braun, Nathan (Holly) Braun, Joshua Braun, Matthew (Maggie Huang) Braun, Haanah Braun, and Maris Braun; three step grandchildren, Alan, Emily, and Amy Berner; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-greatgrandchildren. She is further survived by several nephews and many friends.
A funeral service for Maxine will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Andrew Zobel will officiate. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the church on Thursday at 9:30 am and continue until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in Maxine’s name to St.James Lutheran Church and School.
