OCONTO, WI- An Oconto Falls police officer injured in a shooting almost three years ago must wait another two weeks for the case’s resolution.
Confusion over sentencing recommendations led Oconto County Judge Michael Judge to postpone the sentencing of Alisha Kocken, 31. Kocken fired three shots at Officer Nicole Blaskowski during an August 2021 struggle, hitting her in the head and chest. Blaskowski’s ballistic vest likely saved her life.
Kocken pleaded no contest to several charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, but claimed mental disease or defect. She withdrew this plea before her trial.
At the June 11 hearing, conflicting sentencing recommendations emerged, initially suggesting 16-20 years in prison, then revising to seven to nine years. This was further updated to 20-27 years. Judge postponed the hearing to June 25 to ensure fair consideration.
