SHAWANO, WI- Shawano’s Memorial Day ceremony on May 27 at Woodlawn Cemetery was marked by Pastor Scott Ludford’s reflections on veterans’ sacrifices and biblical teachings.
Quoting Jesus from the Gospel of John, Ludford emphasized, “Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” He highlighted how this sentiment reflects the ultimate sacrifice made by fallen heroes for the freedom of others.
“They were ordinary people who chose to do something extraordinary,” Ludford said. “Their bravery stemmed from a deep conviction and unwavering love for others.”
Ludford underscored the importance of remembering those who sacrificed for America’s freedoms, drawing parallels to Christ’s love. He noted that the cost of freedom is a continuous, collective responsibility.
“Freedom requires ongoing effort and sacrifice,” Ludford said. “We must stand up for our freedoms, speak against injustice, and work towards a just society. This responsibility falls on all of us.”
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of veterans’ sacrifices and the shared duty to honor and maintain the freedoms they fought for.
