GREEN BAY, WI- Merwin J. “Pete” Wynos, previously residing in Keshena, has been handed a two and a half-year federal prison term following his involvement in theft from the construction site of the Menominee Indian High School. Wynos pleaded guilty to three theft incidents, which occurred in September and November 2023.
The thefts involved trespassing onto the closed and secured construction site during nighttime hours. Wynos used a utility vehicle to transport construction tools and electronics stolen from construction trailers to his residence. Subsequently, he attempted to sell some of the stolen items at local pawn shops.
Wynos’s criminal activities came to light after several companies reported equipment thefts from the construction site. Authorities arrested Wynos after catching him with others in possession of stolen construction tools. Despite being detained once, Wynos returned to the construction site and was caught stealing additional items.
In addition to the prison sentence, Wynos will serve three years of supervised release. He is also obligated to pay restitution exceeding $29,000 to the victims affected by his crimes.
