KESHENA, WI-After more than two decades at the helm, the Menominee Indian School District (MISD) is set to welcome a new superintendent as Wendell Waukau announced his retirement, effective June 20. Waukau, who has held various roles within the district since serving as a coach, athletic director, dean of students, and principal, assumed the position of superintendent in 2003.
During his tenure, the district implemented a series of successful reforms recognized at both state and national levels, addressing academic and socio-emotional challenges faced by students.
In recognition of Waukau’s years of service, the Wisconsin Association of School Districts will honor him at the Annual Educational Conference on April 24 at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.
