GREEN BAY, WI-In a matchup held at the Kress Center at the Sun Drop Shootout, Hortonville emerged victorious with a final score of 71-63 against West De Pere.
The game witnessed an intense battle, with West De Pere putting up a strong first-half performance, amassing 25 points. However, Hortonville took command early on, securing a commanding 46-25 lead by halftime. Despite a resilient effort from West De Pere in the second half, Hortonville maintained their composure, ultimately closing the game with a 71-63 triumph. The statistical highlights of the game showcased the individual contributions of players from both teams.
“We had some moments of really good basketball, but we did have some moments of letdown,” Coach A.C. Clouthier said. “West De Pere does not give up and they gave us a good fight.” Paige Lillie demonstrated remarkable accuracy, going 3-for-3 in field goals, 3-for-3 in three-pointers, and converting all her free throws to contribute 9 points in just 24 minutes of play. Rainey Welson showcased her all-around skills, leading Hortonville with 14 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds in 38 minutes on the court. MiKayla Werner also made a significant impact, finishing with an impressive 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists in 29 minutes of play. Kallie Peppler’s solid performance included 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, contributing significantly to Hortonville’s success.
Clouthier says he likes the tough competition. “We play these teams so hopefully we see everything that we will see in a tournament run.”
