WITTENBERG, WI- On the evening of December 5th, 2023, at around 7:03 pm, Shawano County deputies swiftly responded to a report of a solitary vehicle collision on County Rd M, situated just south of State Highway 153 in the Township of Wittenberg. The initial call indicated a vehicle had veered into the ditch with its lights still illuminated.
Upon reaching the scene, a deputy observed tire tracks in the ditch area, suggesting that the vehicle had initially continued beyond that point. However, after a more thorough investigation, deputies managed to locate the vehicle, which had come to a stop at a considerable distance from the roadway after colliding with a tree.
The responding deputy navigated back to the truck’s location and established contact with the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the 74-year-old man from the Wittenberg area was unresponsive and was pronounced deceased on the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Notably, the initial investigation revealed that the driver was not wearing his seat belt.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office received support from several entities on the scene, including the Shawano County Coroner’s Office, Wittenberg Fire Department, and Wittenberg Ambulance.
