
Carol Dorothea Drake, age 105, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, November 20, 2023, at The Renaissance Assisted Living Center in De Pere, where she had been a resident for the past five ½ years. Carol was born August 10, 1918, in Red River, a daughter of the late Ernest and Esther (Fritz) Baumgartner. She attended country school in Hermansfort until
eighth grade. Following school Carol stayed and worked on the family farm. On September 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles T. Drake in Hermansfort. Following their marriage, the couple moved to the city of Shawano. Carol was a stay-at-home mother and housewife. The couple later relocated to Green Bay. She was employed as a custodian at Green Bay Paper and Pulp for
over 30 years, retiring in the late 1960’s. Following her retirement, the couple moved to Crivitz. Carol is a former member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and loved to bake.
Carol is survived by two sons, Dale (Jo Ann) Drake of Oshkosh, and Thomas (Darlene) Drake of Kewauskum; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; her brother, Delmer (Melba) Baumgartner of Shawano; two sisters, Romaine Utke, and Darlene Dayton of Shawano; and several nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Jerry Drake Sr; sisters, Ruby Gast, and Eldine Darrow; and two brothers, Roy, and Donald Baumgartner.
A funeral service for Carol will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Vicar David Kaiser will officiate. Burial will take place at Zion Rest Cemetery in Gresham. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. and continue until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants the family prefers memorials in Carol’s name to The Renaissance in De Pere.
