WAUPACA, WI- A sentence has been handed down for a Waupaca County man, related to the death of another man. On Wednesday, Steven Eggert received a severe sentence of 25 years in prison for his actions surrounding the death of Kevin Roeglin. Rather than reporting Roeglin’s death to the authorities, Eggert chose to set the deceased man’s home on fire, leading to a tragic loss of evidence and dignity. In a courtroom presided over by Judge Vicki Clussman, Eggert, 25 years old, was also placed on extended supervision for an additional nine years. This stringent punishment is a result of the various charges brought against him, including the gruesome act of mutilating a corpse, all of which are running concurrently with his arson sentence.
The incident unfolded on April 27, 2022, when emergency crews responded to a fire at a residence located on County P in Harrison. The fire resulted in the collapse of the roof and ultimately the entire structure into the basement. Tragically, among the debris, the remains of Kevin Roeglin were discovered, compounding the already devastating situation.
