The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office says they have been made aware of a recent scam. People are receiving phone calls from someone pretending to be an employee of the Shawano County Sheriff’s office. It has been reported that the individual is attempting to acquire money from the victims, threatening arrest in doing so. Shawano County Sheriff officials say they would never request money over the phone or request personal details. They say it is okay and advised to hang up and call back. They say by calling the dispatch center directly, they would be able to tell the victim if the call is legitimate or not.
Now that it is complete, the finals attendance numbers are in from this year’s EAA Airventure in Oshkosh. Officials say 677,000 people attended the event at the airport and that is about 27,000 more than the previous record. Officials say they hade more campers, exhibitors and volunteers this year. There were more than 10,000 aircrafts, a couple of tragic events and pilots and those in attendance were able to get through the heat and poor air quality that took place at the start of this year’s event.
Tuesday was a big night for communities National night out. Marion held a family event that included a Color Run throughout Marion, free food and fireworks. They also had activities for the kids, a dunk tank and opportunities to see law enforcement and emergency vehicles up close. Menominee Tribal Police hosted a National Night Out in Middle Village. The Menominee Tribal Police Department did multiple demonstrations for people in attendance. Shawano will have their event on Tuesday August 8. Part of that event is a chili cookoff that will be judged by members of the different law enforcement and emergency departments. 10 entries will be judged.
Pulaski School resource officers recently received a generous donation from Rick’s Toybox. The donation was 100 handmade wooden cars for the kids to design and color. The school resource officers will use those cars to help build connections with the kids in the school.
Improvements are coming for wireless usage in both Shawano and Oconto County. Cellcom recently took some efforts to improve strong wireless service by adding eight cell sites in the last year. Those efforts help fill coverage gaps.
US Representative Tom Tiffany will not run for US Senate in 2024. The Congressman made the announcement on Tuesday. As of now, there are not any declared republican candidates to run against Democrat Tammy Baldwin. Tiffany said he would seek reelection for his congressional seat instead. Baldwin is seeking a third term. US Representative Mike Gallagher also recently declined to run.
