Betty Jane Marie Stern, age 99 of Tigerton passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Aster Assisted Living, Clintonville.
Betty was born on July 12, 1923, in Tigerton to John and Hattie (Monicke) Stern. She grew up in Tigerton where she graduated from high school and then went to Wausau Business College. Betty Jane worked for a short time with the Draft Board in Wausau before going to the FWD Corporation in Clintonville. Betty started work in Purchasing and later moved to Sales as Secretary to the Sales Manager. At the time of her retirement her title was Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales. Betty retired in 1987 after 43 years of service.
During the big band era she was a member of the Wright Modern Dance Band, made up mostly of FWD employees, playing for proms, golf outings, public dances, etc. She was a longtime member of the Tigerton Area Historical Society. Betty enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by a niece and two nephews: Lynelle (Robert) Hoffman of Ringle, Michael (Kim) Buss of Wausau, Thomas (Carmen) Buss of Appleton. Great nieces and nephews, Allison (Darren) Wirth, Mellissa (Craig) Gilbert, Hailey and Anna Buss, Ryan Hoffman, and Travis (Rebecca) Hoerman. She is further survived by great-great nephews, Marcus and Carson Wirth; great-great nieces, Rylie and Sophie Hoerman; and many other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marilyn, and a brother-in-law, Thomas Buss Sr.
Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 5th at 3:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Rev. Dean Suehring will officiate and burial will be at a later date at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 PM until time of service.
