
Richard W. “Dick” Postl, age 87 of the Town of Wescott, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, in Shawano surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Oshkosh on March 23, 1935, to the late Albert and Irene (Kranzusch) Postl. Dick enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years from 1954 to 1962. While in the Navy, he traveled the world, he served five and a half years in the Pacific fleet, one year in the Atlantic fleet and one and a half years at the submarine base in New London, Connecticut. Dick traveled to England, Australia, Greece, Italy, and Japan, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Seiko Tomiyoshi. Dick and Seiko were united in marriage in April of 1957 in Yokohama, Japan. The couple would return to the United States and open Dick and Seiko’s, a tavern in the Town of Wescott, which they operated for 29 years before retiring. Dick was an avid sports fan and followed the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks. He loved the Shawano races and never missed a Saturday night at the track and cherished watching his grandson Lukas race. Dick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s many events.
Dick is survived by: his wife, Seiko; children, Thomas (Jennifer) Postl, Sandra (Kevin) Bistoff, and Susan (Brian) DeMarb all of Shawano; grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Dieck, Lukas (Tara Kitzman) Postl, Shelby (Brian Krueger) Bistoff, and Kory Bistoff; special grandson, Shane DeMarb; four great grandchildren, Kobe, Adley, Karter, Dantae; and fur babies, Max, Bailey, and Teddy. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James (Emily) Postl, and a sister, Helen (Doug) Schroeder.
A funeral for Dick will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Military rites will be conducted following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Shawano VFW or the Shawano County Humane Society.
