BROWN COUNTY, WI- An officer is being treated for injuries after accidently shooting himself, following a vehicle pursuit Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to the area for a welfare check around 8:00 a.m. Officers reported that they initially could not find the man, but he was located hours later inside his vehicle.
Authorities say that pursuit started near Highway VV and Highway 29 heading east. The pursuit ended after the man pulled over near Hillcrest Drive or FF. It was reported that the man initially refused to get out of his vehicle and a soon after, a 7-year veteran of the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department accidently shot himself in the hip when getting out of his car.
Police say crisis negotiators were eventually able to get the driver out of his vehicle and taken into custody. Authorities say the 36-year-old Hobart-Lawrence Police officer is expected to be OK.
The incident closed a portion on Highway 29 for a few hours.
