SHAWANO, WI- The HHH Bridge project in Shawano will not be open for the originally planned date. The road was scheduled to open this weekend, but will now open on Wednesday, November 23.
“There were some material delays that added about a couple of weeks to the project,” said Shawano County Highway Commissioner Grant Bystol. “The asphalt approaches and shouldering is completed. The final work that needs to be done is the approach guardrails.”
Since the start of the project, access to homes and businesses in the moose yard has been more difficult. It has required a detour that includes downtown Shawano.
The opening will be good news too many, including boaters. “It is another 2 feet, 2 inches so it will be a couple of inches more clearance than the bridge by the courthouse,” said Bystol.
The bridge itself is going to look different than before. “The new bridge is going to be a lot wider. It went from 24 to 40 feet wide, so it will be a nice improvement.”
The recent cold and snow is not expected to delay the opening of the bridge on Wednesday.
“The only thing that the snow or cold weather might impact is getting the pavement marking downs
