HORTONVILLE, WI- Republican Dean Neubert to announce a write-in campaign for Assembly District 6.
“Respect for our electoral process is critical for democracy to work. As a Republican, I believe in supporting the candidate who wins hard fought primaries to ensure our voice will be heard in Madison.”
Neubert said he was prepared to that in his Assembly District 6 race, but things changed after the primary. “Troubling issues have arisen that were kept hidden from voters,” he said. “Violent criminal charges and deceptive behavior from the Republican primary winner has concerned many in the district, myself included. I feel compelled to enter into a write-in campaign.” He says he has received strong support by the communities in District 6 and it lead him to conclude that a write-in campaign will work to win the seat. Earlier this month, Schmidt won a six-way primary by a mere 63 votes to become the Republican nominee.
Schmidt has a criminal record after being charged with a felony but later convicted of criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, after an incident in which a worker on Schmidt’s farm was choked in 2019. Schmidt pleaded no contest and was found guilty in 2021. A court sentenced him to two years probation and ordered him to participate in an anger-management program. There is also reports that about a month after the assault took place, Schmidt visited the Shawano County sheriff’s office to make a complaint that someone was trying to blackmail him. The unknown suspect was demanding $50,000, in exchange for not releasing a sex tape of Schmidt “performing oral sex on another male.” Schmidt admitted the recording was real. He said he had been “in a relationship” with another man who worked on the Schmidt Ponderosa Farm. Schmidt also released a statement to tchdailynews.com.
“I was the victim of a terrible crime in which someone tried taking advantage of me. Throughout it all, I’ve managed to grow our farm, volunteer for the Republican Party, and give back to my community. There was a brief moment in my life where I questioned my orientation, but I’m a devoted Christian and I believe in forgiveness. Forgiveness is a tenet of the Christian faith and I live it each day. I hope others do too.”
Neubert stated, “This election is about honestly, integrity and leadership my opponents have demonstrated that is not their priority. We need a representative that will be a voice who willstand up for small business, election integrity, pro-life values and family paychecks. I wish Peter the best of luck in life, but we need someone who is a steady disciplined leader, not a distraction.”
Dean is a husband, father, business owner and youth sports coach. He is active in his local community and involved with his local republican party.
