Marion F. Gauerke, age 93 of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Saturday evening, July 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her devoted family. Marion was born in Bonduel on February 10, 1929, daughter of the late William and Esther (Boerst) Schmidt. She attended country school before going to St. Paul Lutheran grade school in Bonduel. Following school, Marion became a domestic, working as a nanny for the Dr. Arthur Cantwell family in Shawano for nearly six years. On October 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to David Kortbein at St. Paul Lutheran Church
in Bonduel. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed outside of Clintonville for 25 years. When the couple sold their farm, they moved to Shawano where Mr. Kortbein owned and
operated his own insurance agency. He passed away on August 2, 1992. Marion later married Harold Gauerke on April 13, 1996, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Mr. Gauerke passed away in August of 1999. Marion spent her years caring for her family. Following Harold’s death Marion spent nearly ten years with a special friend, dance partner, and card partner, Milton Seehafer. Mr. Seehafer died in 2014 at the age of 92. Marion was a good and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church where she served with the Ladies Aid Society for many years, serving as President for eight years. Her hobbies included drumming in her polka band, dancing, cooking, baking, collecting recipes, and taking pictures. Marion also enjoyed camping and traveling as well. She was the innovator of the “Neighborhood Watch”. Marion’s top priority, other than church, was her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Marjorie Rohloff of Shawano, David (Barb) Kortbein of New London, Margaret (Sean) Kane of Green Bay, and Luther (Sondra) Kortbein of Cecil; four grandchildren, Kevin Rohloff, Chad (Mel) Rohloff, Kris Rohloff, and Daniel (Emily) Kane; six great-grandchildren, Zander, Zara, Zay, and Zakira Rohloff, Abbey Rohloff, and Vincent and
