SHAWANO, WI- After two months of collecting signatures, the process of recalling two Shawano school board members is continuing.
Bobbi Lemerond told the school board Monday that they have collected 3,881 signatures, which is enough to to continue with the process.
The petitions were to recall board members Charles Dallas and Michael Sleeper. “After speaking with thousands of our community members, the common thread woven through thousands of conversations was a lack in confidence in our superintendent and the board’s lack of action in this matter to prevent the mass exodus of our teaching staff,” Lemerond told the board.
As of 3:55 p.m. on Monday, all signatures were given to the district office , where they will be subject to a review for up to 31 days.
According to Lemerond, 1,958 signatures were obtained for recalling Michael Sleeper and 1,923 were obtained for recalling Dallas. 1,829 were needed for each.
State law allows up to 31 days for the district to verify the signatures to make sure they are all from people who vote in the Shawano School District. If there remains enough signatures, the recall election would likely take place in the fall. Lemerond said they do have candidates ready to run, but they have not announced who they are yet.
