CANTON, OH-Former Packers coach Mike Holmgren, former players Sterling Sharpe and Cecil Isbell, media relations director Lee Remmel and scout Jack Vainisi have been named semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Holmgren led the Packers to the Super Bowl XXXI title and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXII. He left Green Bay with a 75–37 record from 1992-98 before leaving for Seattle, when he led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl during the 2005 season. He finished his coaching career with a 147-93 record.
Sterling Sharpe played in Green Bay from 1988-2004 and caught 595 passes for 8,194 yards and 65 TDs before being forced to retire due to a neck injury.
Remmel worked in the Packers’ media relations office from 1994-2007 and was named the team’s first historian.
Vainisi scouted for the Packers from 1950-60, and recommended drafting hall of famers Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung and Jerry Kramer.
