FOND DU LAC, WI- (Wisconsin Radio Network) – A Fond du Lac County judge has sentenced a 21-year-old driver to two decades in prison for causing a double-fatal crash while he was impaired. Samuel J. Coppersmith of Appleton had pleaded no contest to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in May. Coppersmith was driving on Interstate 41 in July 2020 when he lost control of his vehicle in the Town of Friendship and it rolled. Two passengers were killed and two others suffered serious injuries. The state had recommended a sentence of 28 years.
