GREEN BAY, WI- One firefighter was hurt and taken to the hospital while responding to a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning at a Green Bay industrial facility. Firefighters were called out to Packer City Sales at around 5:05 am to a report of heavy black smoke riding from the structure. Green Bay Metro Fire Lieutenant Shauna Walesh says multiple agencies from surrounding communities came in to help.
“Being a little bit hotter out, muggy, can wear out firefighters a little bit quicker. So having those extra firefighters on the scene was extremely helpful and also to backfill some of our stations, we still had people available to respond to normal emergencies.”
Firefighters had to take a defensive stance and managed to get the fire under control in about two and a half hours. No civilians were hurt, and damage is estimated at around $1 million.
“Pretty significant loss. Typically with structures, some of it’s not always just strictly fire damage. It could be smoke damage and water damage as well that affected it.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and it could be a few days until further information is released.
