WAUPACA, WI- Two mothers are angry about the sentence given to a woman who was blamed for a pair of fatal overdoses. Jordan May and Kendra Rateau died when they were given drugs they didn’t know were laced with fentanyl. Their mothers say the six-year prison sentence given to April Hardegen wasn’t long enough. Hardegen was found guilty of two counts of first-degree reckless homicide. Rateau’s mother, Sherry Meyer, wanted Hardegen to get the maximum sentence for the conviction, 40 years. Jennifer Bautista-May called the six-year prison term “a joke.”
