MADISON, WI- (Wisconsin Radio Network) – In the wake of mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas, Wisconsin’s attorney general wants citizens to pressure Republican lawmakers to act on gun safety. Governor Tony Evers says he’s ready to work with Republican legislators to address gun violence. The Democratic governor issued a video statement on Wednesday, saying he “will work with any Republican who wants to find common ground, who wants to make progress on gun safety, who wants to pass legislation a majority of Wisconsinites will support.”
Democrat Josh Kaul, who’s up for reelection in November, made that call at the Capitol on Wednesday. He says it’s “going to require people across the state to pick up the phone, to call their legislators, and demand that they take action, because we know that they’re going to delay.” Governor Tony Evers – who’s also facing reelection in November, called a special session on a pair of gun control bills in 2019, but Republican legislative leaders did nothing.
Evers, who’s up for reelection in November, also offered condolences to the families of students and teachers killed in their Uvalde, Texas elementary school this week.
