Former Governor Tommy Thompson’s tenure as the University of Wisconsin System president is now done. Thompson stepped down Thursday after announcing plans earlier this year to retire. Thompson began serving as the interim system president in 2020. Milwaukee lawyer Jay Rothman will fill the position on June 1st. Thompson served four terms in the 80s and 90s as the state’s governor and says he will make a decision in April about trying for another term.
