Gary Burr

Gary Burr, age 70, of Shawano passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Gary was born in Shawano to the late Gordon and Phyllis (Lenzner) Burr. Gary graduated from Shawano High School with the class of 1970 before enlisting with the United States Marine Corps. On October 13, 1973, Gary was united in marriage to Karen Duchac in Antigo. Karen preceded Gary in death on June 21, 2011. Gary loved his work as a police officer and worked for the City of Marinette, Shawano County, and the City of Shawano throughout his career. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, working on his military jeep, and helping friends and family with projects. More than anything he loved spending time with his family especially his four grandchildren.

Gary is survived by: his daughters, Wendy (Jeff) Fritz and Jenny (Seth) Mailahn; grandchildren Sam and Hatty Fritz and Charlie and Jace Mailahn; his special friend, Susan Kriescher; siblings, Katie (Jack) Hietpas, Cherie Schellinger, Walking Eagle Burr, Jeff (Dee) Burr, Randy (Tammy) Burr, Todd Burr, and Burdette Burr, Jr. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and granddogs, Thorn and Hank.

Preceding Gary in death are his wife, Karen Burr, his parents, a brother, Mark Burr, and a granddog, Brutus.

A funeral service for Gary will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Deacon James Lonick officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Shawano American Legion Post #117. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of the service.
