Arnold William Arndt was born on February 26, 1928, in Marion to Henry and Anna (Begrow) Arndt. He grew up and attended school in Marion. At a young age, Arnie started helping his father on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines from 1946-1947. Arnie was united in marriage on June 16, 1951, to Ruby A. Wieland at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The couple dairy farmed in the Town of Germania, Shawano County, for over 25 years.
While farming, Arnie owned & operated his own logging business cutting logs for many years. Even after the couple sold the farm, he continued to do field work and drove truck for other neighboring farms. Arnie and Ruby moved into town in 2011. His wife of 70 years preceded him in death on November 30, 2021.
Arnie was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton, where he served as an elder and as school board treasurer. He was active on the church finance committee and was instrumental in the construction of the current fellowship hall. Arnie also served for a number of terms as a Town of Germania Chairman and Supervisor.
In his early days, Arnie was an avid outdoorsman and liked fishing and deer hunting. He was always a proud supporter and fan of Tigerton Baseball. Arnie was also a talented welder; not just to fix things around the farm but he created incredible metal artwork. The couple enjoyed traveling a lot, especially their trips to Mexico, Jamaica, and Hawaii. Arnie loved spending time with friends and family, whether he was playing cards, winning at cribbage, or just being the life of the party.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Schulist; three grandchildren, Angela Hahn, Eric (Megan) Schulist, and Suzanne Schulist; and four great grandchildren, Logan Hahn, Tenley Hahn, Clara Schulist, and Lauren Schulist. There are seven in-laws, Joan (Howard) Curtis, Patricia Seefeldt, Betty Rogers, Doreen (Warren) Lynch, Katherine Wieland, Margaret (Emil) Sume, and Everett (Tammy) Wieland. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruby; a son, Robert Arndt; a son-in-law, Richard Schulist; two sisters, Elda Niemuth and Delores Fenske; two brothers, Robert Arndt and Henry Arndt Jr.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Arndt-Knaack; two brothers-in-law, Victor Niemuth and Chester Fenske. He is further preceded in death by relatives on Ruby’s side of the family: sisters-in-law, Janet Ostrowski, Norma Lehman, and Elsie Croft; and brothers-in-law, Christian, Roger, Wallace Wieland, Rupert Ostrowski, Martin Lehman Jr., and John Seefeldt.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 3rd at 12:00 Noon at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Rev. Dean Suehring will officiate and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Military Honors will be provided by members of the Tigerton American Legion Post #239. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church.
