Evan “Butch” Stuhr, age 79 of Tigerton passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Shawano.
Evan Elmer Stuhr was born on November 23, 1942, on the family farm in the Town of Grant, Shawano County, to Elmer and Helen (Schmidt) Stuhr. He grew up in the Town of Grant and attended Marion High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1964-1966. Butch was united in marriage on September 4, 1966, to Susan K. Papendorf at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline. They lived for a few years in Sussex, and he worked as an auto mechanic at Keppen’s Kar Kare in Waukesha. The couple returned to Tigerton and bought his parent’s home dairy farm in 1970. Butch farmed for much of his life, but he did all sorts of things over the years. Back in 1994 he partnered with his son-in-law, Wayne Block, to start Custom Fab and Body in Tigerton. The business was later moved to their current location in Marion.
Butch was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Grant. He took great pride in his draft horses and enjoyed going on wagon rides, especially for Caroline Lions Colorama each year. Butch was an outdoorsman who liked hunting locally for whitetails or going to South Dakota for mule deer. He also enjoyed several trips to Hawaii, his Military reunions, and throwing a party whenever possible. Butch started the annual “Stuhr Fireworks Bash” every July. Family was important to him and he liked spending time with the grandkids; attending their activities and sporting events. Butch had a great sense of humor, was quick witted, and would help out anyone.
