MADISON, WI- The total preliminary number of deer harvested in Wisconsin for the first two days is down about 14% from last year’s final total of 99,832 on opening weekend. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reported Wisconsin hunters harvested 85,860 deer. It was reported that Wisconsin hunters took down 47,529 antlered deer and 38,331 antlerless.
Officials say harvest totals, and license sales are down in 2021.
Marathon, Shawano and Waupaca Counties once again had the most harvested deer in the State for the first two days.
Marathon County- 2970 (1.689 Antlered, 1281 Anterless)
Shawano County – 2, 740 (1,494 Antlered, 1,246 Anterless)
Waupaca County- 2,519 (1, 380 Antlered, 1,139 Antlerless)
Marinette County- 1,901 (1,235 Antlered, 666 Anterless)
Oconto County- 1,794 (1,101 Antlered, 693 Anterless)
Outagamie County- 932 (508 Antlered, 424 Antlerless)
Langlade County- 813 (610 Antlered, 203 Anterless)
Brown County- 464 (249 Antlered, 215 Antlerless)
Calumet County- 294 (152 Antlered, 142 Antlerless)
The largest area drop in harvests came in Calumet County which was down 30.3 percent, Brown County down 28.7 percent, Waupaca County down 20 percent, and Winnebago County down 17.9 percent. Marinette County was the only county in the area to have an increase in overall harvest numbers.
DNR officials say Saturday was great weather as it was cold with no wind. The wind did pick up on Sunday and it appears that it did impact hunting.
