MILWAUKEE, WI- Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes has won the National League Cy Young Award. The announcement by the Baseball Writers Association of America was made Wednesday. Burnes edged Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler in one of the closest competitions in the history of the pitching award. Both Burnes and Wheeler got 12 first-place votes, but the Milwaukee star got more second-place voters to claim the top spot. Max Scherzer was third. The 27-year-old Burnes led all qualified pitchers in strikeout rate, walk rate, and home run rate. He is the third Brewers pitcher to win a Cy Young, following Rollie Fingers in 1981 and Pete Vukovich in 1982. Another Brewers pitcher, Brandon Woodruff, also received votes this year.
